Can I stick it directly on my skin?
No. These attach to clothing only. Applying a warming pad to bare skin risks a low-temperature burn, which can happen even at temperatures that do not feel dangerous.
Can I sleep with one on?
No. Sleeping with a warming pad is the most common cause of low-temperature burns, because you do not notice the heat building against one spot.
How does it heat up?
Iron powder inside the pad oxidises when exposed to air, which releases heat. That is why it only starts warming once you open the packet.
How is this different from a hand warmer?
A hand warmer is held in the hand or a pocket. These are adhesive and stick to clothing, so they stay in position on the back, stomach or shoulders while you move.
