Q1: Why not just use bleach?
Chlorine bleach can pit and corrode stainless steel. An oxygen-based cleaner does the job without that risk, which is why bottle cleaners are formulated this way.
Q2: Do I need to scrub afterwards?
No. The effervescent action does the work. Rinse thoroughly with clean water once it is finished.
Q3: How long do I leave it?
Follow the timing on the pack. Around 30 minutes handles light staining, and longer suits heavier build-up.
Q4: Can I seal the lid while it works?
No. The reaction releases gas, so leave the bottle open or rest the lid on loosely.
Q5: Will it get rid of the smell?
That is one of the main reasons people use it. It lifts the residue causing the stale smell rather than masking it.
