Most sheet masks ask for twenty minutes. This rice mask asks for five, and that difference is most of why it has stayed a Japanese drugstore fixture for a decade. It is short enough to do while the kettle boils.
The formula is built entirely on Japanese-grown rice. Rice ferment filtrate, which is essentially sake, sits alongside rice bran oil, rice bran glycosphingolipid and hydrolyzed rice bran extract, plus glucosyl ceramide and alpha-glucan. The Keana range takes its name from the Japanese word for pores, and the whole line is aimed at skin that looks dry and rough in texture.
The sheet mask itself is unusually thick and holds a lot of essence, which is what makes a five-minute wear worthwhile. The formula is fragrance-free, colourant-free and slightly acidic. Ishizawa sells it in boxes of ten, which is how most people buy it.
