Overview

JM Solution built its reputation on masks that are drenched rather than damp, and the Placen line is at the heavier end of that range. This one pairs lanolin with hydrolyzed placental protein, a combination that sits far outside the usual K-beauty ingredient story and is aimed squarely at skin that feels dry and depleted rather than congested. As a jm solution mask for the cold half of the year, it is a comfort product first.

Lanolin is the ingredient doing most of the visible work. It is a rich, waxy emollient that sits on the surface and slows water loss, which is why it turns up in the heaviest balms on the market. The placental protein is present at eighteen thousand parts per billion according to the label, alongside a peptide blend that includes tripeptide-1, copper tripeptide-1, acetyl hexapeptide-8 and palmitoyl pentapeptide-4.

Two things are worth knowing before buying. The mask is not vegan, since both lanolin and the placental protein are animal-derived. And lanolin is a recognised contact allergen for a minority of people, so if you already know you react to it, this is one to skip.

Got questions? We’ve got answers!

Is this mask vegan?

No. It contains lanolin, which comes from sheep's wool, and hydrolyzed placental protein, which is animal-derived. If you avoid animal-derived ingredients, this is not the right mask.

What does lanolin actually do here?

It is a rich emollient that sits on the skin surface and slows water loss. It is one of the heaviest moisturizing ingredients used in skincare, which is why this mask suits dry skin rather than oily skin.

Can I use it if I have a wool allergy?

Lanolin sensitivity and wool fibre sensitivity are not the same thing, but lanolin is a recognised contact allergen in its own right. If you have ever reacted to a lanolin-based balm or nipple cream, skip this one.

How long should I leave it on?

Ten to twenty minutes. Taking it off before it dries out matters more than hitting the maximum time, because a drying sheet pulls moisture back off the skin.

How is this different from the Placen Horse mask?

Same range, different rich ingredient. The Horse version uses horse fat and hydrolyzed collagen; this one uses lanolin. Both are aimed at dry skin.
