Overview

The reason liese foam hair color took over Japanese drugstores is the format. Instead of mixing a cream and painting it on section by section, you combine two liquids in the bottle, pump out a foam, and massage it through dry hair with your hands. The back of your head, where home colour usually goes wrong, gets covered as easily as the front.

Liese olive ash is a cool ash brown with a green cast running through it. The green is the working part: green sits opposite red on the colour wheel, so it cancels the red warmth that dark hair naturally carries and that shows up as colour fades. That makes olive one of the more useful ash tones on Asian hair specifically.

It will show best on hair that has been lightened at least once. On completely unlightened dark hair you will get a subtle cooling effect rather than the shade on the box. It is a proper oxidative dye: the first liquid carries the colour precursors and the second contains hydrogen peroxide, which makes the colour permanent. The safety steps come with that, and a skin allergy test 48 hours before every single use is not optional.

Got questions? We’ve got answers!

Do I really need to patch test every time?

Yes. Allergic sensitisation to hair dye can develop after years of trouble-free use, and reactions can be severe. Test 48 hours before every application, not just the first.

Why olive rather than plain ash?

The green cast in olive cancels the red warmth that dark hair carries naturally. That makes it more effective at neutralising brassiness on Asian hair than a plain grey ash

Will it show on unlightened dark hair?

You will get a subtle cooling effect rather than the shade on the box. Ash tones show truest on hair that has been lightened at least once.

Is it permanent or semi-permanent?

Permanent. It is a two-part oxidative dye with a hydrogen peroxide developer.
