Overview

The reason liese foam hair color took over Japanese drugstores is the format. Instead of mixing a cream and painting it on section by section, you combine two liquids in the bottle, pump out a foam, and massage it through dry hair with your hands. The back of your head, which is where home colour usually goes wrong, gets covered as easily as the front.

Sugar Pink is one of the brighter shades in the range, a sweet candy rose rather than a subtle tint. Like any pink, it shows most clearly on hair that has already been lightened. On dark, unlightened hair the result will be far subtler, and that is worth knowing before you order rather than after.

This is a proper oxidative dye. The first liquid contains the colour precursors and the second contains hydrogen peroxide, which is what makes the colour permanent rather than a wash-out tint. That also means the safety steps are not optional: a skin allergy test 48 hours before every single use, every time, even if you have used the product before.

Got questions? We’ve got answers!

Q1: Do I really need to patch test every time?

Yes. Allergic sensitisation to hair dye can develop after years of trouble-free use, and reactions can be severe. Test 48 hours before every application, not just the first.

Q2: Will Sugar Pink show on dark hair?

Not clearly. Pink is a bright fashion shade and shows truest on hair that has already been lightened. On dark unlightened hair you will get a subtle tint at most.

Q3: Is this permanent or semi-permanent?

Permanent. It is a two-part oxidative dye with a hydrogen peroxide developer, despite some listings describing it as semi-permanent.

Q4: Is it ammonia free?

No. Ammonia water is in the first liquid, despite some retailer listings claiming otherwise.

Q5: How long do I leave it on?

20 to 30 minutes, as directed in the enclosed leaflet.
